OFFERING COUNSELLING SERVICES

Meet Clara Lee,
Registered Provisional Psychologist
(She/Her)

Clara is a warm and welcoming individual who believes everyone can benefit from therapy. She holds the belief that every person deserves to be heard and supported in their growth with the guidance of a therapist.

She earned her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta. Between these two degrees, she completed a Graduate Diploma in Youth Work at Concordia University in Montreal. With this broad educational background, Clara has worked with many populations, including youth, children, and seniors.

Clara currently provides counselling for adults, couples, and families. She draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy, always collaborating with clients to identify the approaches that best support their goals. Clara welcomes feedback and is committed to incorporating it into treatment planning to ensure therapy is meaningful and effective.

As an Asian woman, Clara has a passion for working with marginalized populations. She has supported refugees, the LGBTQIA+ community, and BIPOC individuals. Clara recognizes the need for mental health services in these communities and encourages those facing stigma around mental illness to take the courageous step of seeking support for their wellbeing.

Clara strives to create a safe, comfortable space where clients can move at their own pace. She meets people where they are, whether that means offering prompts, listening with care, or bringing in directness and humour when appropriate. Clara is accepting new clients beginning in September and is available for counselling sessions on Thursday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Personal Insights:

What inspired you to become a psychologist?
My decision to become a psychologist was shaped by my own struggles with mental health in high school. During that time, I often felt lost and alone, unsure of how to cope or where to turn. That experience left a lasting impression and became the foundation of my career path. I want to ensure that others never feel like they are walking through their challenges in isolation.

What is your therapy superpower?
My therapy superpower is the ability to meet clients exactly where they are. I adapt my approach based on what each client needs in the moment. Sometimes that looks like providing space for a client to talk freely for the entire session, and other times it means gently prompting and guiding the conversation when someone feels nervous or doesn’t know where to start. This flexibility allows me to create a therapeutic experience that is comfortable, personalized, and supportive of each client’s goals.

What values guide your clinical work?
My work is guided by integrity, compassion, and empathy. I believe therapy should be a non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to share openly without fear of criticism or shame. My goal is to embody these values in every session by offering care, honesty, and respect, so clients know they are truly seen and accepted.

How do you define authenticity?
To me, authenticity means being self-aware, unbiased, and open to growth. It is about showing up as your true self, while also being willing to listen, learn, and integrate feedback. Authenticity is not about having all the answers, it is about honesty, humility, and the courage to stay aligned with your values.

Favourite quote, metaphor, or philosophy you bring into sessions:
“You never know what someone else is going through, so it’s best to approach with an open mind and heart.” This simple reminder keeps me grounded in empathy and compassion, which I strive to bring into every interaction with my clients.

Interests or hobbies outside of work:
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy activities that help me recharge and connect with others. I love playing volleyball, experimenting in the kitchen, and cooking new dishes. I also value rest and don’t underestimate the power of a good nap. These hobbies give me balance and allow me to bring fresh energy and perspective into my work with clients.

Clara Lee
Authentic Care, Genuine Connection 🌿

Personal Story In high school, I struggled deeply with my own mental health, and from that point forward I knew I wanted to support others on their journey. I believe no problem is too big or too small for therapy, and that it should be something people look forward to as a space of support and growth. Growing up in an Asian household, mental illness was surrounded by stigma and often went unspoken. This experience shaped me into a strong advocate for mental health, especially within the Asian community. I know how difficult it can feel to ask for help, and I want to meet clients where they are, reducing the shame and barriers that stigma creates.

Outside the Office Outside of work, I enjoy naps, good food (especially sushi), and playing volleyball. I recently started running, though I’m still deciding if I enjoy it. I also have a deep passion for animals—pigs are my favourite—and I’ll happily talk about your pets too. Sadly, I recently discovered I’m allergic to cats, so I admire them from afar. Self-care is something I strongly value, whether it’s physical or creative. I express my creativity through art, music, and cooking, and I enjoy challenging myself to learn new skills. I’m also an avid Canva user and love designing projects that bring ideas to life.

In Session I believe therapy should feel safe, comfortable, and even a little light-hearted. I bring humour into my sessions when appropriate, while also knowing when to be serious and challenge clients toward growth. Friends often ask what I’m like as a therapist because of my playful side, but in the therapy room I balance that energy with professionalism, care, and a focus on helping clients meet their goals!
