The Authentic You Process
Counselling at Authentic You is relational and collaborative. As a client you are met with respect, curiosity, and genuine care. We work together to help you feel grounded, capable, and confident in your ability to navigate internal struggles and life's challenges. Our entire team, from admin to psychologists, is committed to showing up as our authentic selves and bringing lived experience forward as a core value in the work we do.
Getting started
Contact us to book a free 15 minute consultation to make sure your psychologist feels like the right fit. If you decide to move forward with booking, you complete a detailed intake form and sign consent before your first session. This helps us begin with a strong foundation and shared understanding of what the counselling process will look like.
Your First Session
You and your psychologist review informed consent, discuss what brought you here, explore your history, and identify goals. You leave with a clear sense of direction and an understanding of how we’ll work collaboratively together to create a personalized treatment plan that reflects your unique needs and pace in therapy.
Returning Sessions
Sessions focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship, exploring patterns in your brain, body, and emotions, and practicing new ways of responding to different types of stress, environments, and relationships. You learn skills in session, to use and apply them in daily life. Changes develop through practice, reflection, and honest conversations with self and with others.
Between Sessions
Growth continues outside the therapy room. You are encouraged to use tools, skills, introspect, and engage with resources/ homework between appointments. These steps deepen your work and help you manage symptoms more independently. Many clients reach a place where they require less support and take intentional therapy breaks, feeling more steady and able to manage their day to day.
Check-In Sessions
Now that you have met some of your therapeutic goals and feel more confident handling challenges, sessions can shift from weekly to biweekly, then to monthly, and eventually every few months if that fits your needs. You can also return for support anytime during periods of stress, crisis, or loss. This gives you a familiar, safe, and comfortable person and place to check in when life becomes heavier.
